Tip: Stop Email Scammers Before They Hook You

May 2026

Email scams are getting more convincing every day, but the goal is always the same: to trick you into clicking a link or giving away personal information. The good news? A few simple habits can help you stay one step ahead.

Think Before You Click

If an email feels off, pause. Even messages that look familiar can be fake. Instead of clicking links or opening attachments, go directly to the company’s website by typing the address into your browser.

Before clicking, take a closer look.

  • On a computer: hover your mouse over the link
  • On a phone: press and hold the link

If the web address looks strange or doesn’t match the real site, don’t click.

✅ Real: https://www.bek.com
🚫 Fake: https://bek.com.service-update.com

Look at the Sender

Scammers often use email addresses that look almost right—but not quite.

✅ Real: support@bektel.coop
🚫 Fake: support@bek-coop.com or support@bekhelp.commail.com

If the email doesn’t come from @bektel.com or @bektel.coop, it’s not from BEK.

Watch for Red Flags

Be cautious of emails that:

  • Demand urgent action
  • Contain spelling or grammar mistakes
  • Ask for personal or payment information
  • Come from unknown senders

Report Suspicious Emails

If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from BEK, don’t engage with it. Forward it to csr@bektel.coop. You can also report scams to the FTC at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Share What You Know

A quick conversation can make a big difference. Help protect your friends, family, and coworkers, especially those less familiar with email scams.
