Behind the Board
A Conversation with Brett Stroh
April 2026
This month, we’re shining the spotlight on BEK Board of Director and President of the Board Brett Stroh of District II. President Stroh has helped guide the cooperative for more than two decades.

Throughout the years, Brett has worn a lot of hats. He went to school in Wahpeton for diesel mechanics and even taught there for a time. While there, he met his wife, Kris. From there, the couple bought their own farm on the north side of Crystal Springs, raising cattle, sheep, and small grains. Later, he spent 20 years working as an electrician. These days, you’ll still find him out in his shop, welding, building signs, and putting together projects just for the fun of it.
Family and faith are at the center of everything Brett does. He and Kris are celebrating 40 years of marriage this year. They have two children and two grandchildren. His son is farming near McClusky with the grandkids, and his daughter teaches at NDSU. Brett also serves as chairman of his church council, something he takes great pride in.
His path to the BEK Board started with family, too. His dad served before him, and Brett followed in those footsteps when he was elected in 2000. He’s now been President of the Board for 14 years. In that role, he helps lead meetings, supports fellow board members, and makes himself available to members who have questions or just want to talk things through.
Brett says he serves because he enjoys it. He says he looks forward to every monthly meeting and values staying connected to what’s happening across BEK and the communities it serves. Outside of his faith and family, he calls this work one of the most meaningful parts of his life.
And if there’s one thing he wants members to know, it’s this: BEK belongs to you. The best way to make your voice heard is to get involved by attending meetings, voting, and staying engaged. That’s how a cooperative stays strong.
For Brett, it all comes down to service. And after all these years, he still says the same thing: “It’s been an honor and privilege to serve.”
