How to Stop Email Scammers Before They Hook You
November 2025
1. Stop and Think Before You Click
If an email looks odd or unexpected, pause before opening attachments or clicking links. Even familiar-looking emails can be fake. Instead, go directly to the company’s website by typing the address into your browser.
2.Verify the Link Before You Trust It
On a computer: Hover your mouse pointer over the link to preview the real web address. On a smartphone or tablet: Press and hold the link until a preview appears. If the address looks strange, has extra words, or does not match the real site—delete it!
✅ Real: https://www.bek.com
🚫 Fake: https://bek.com.service-update.com
3. Check the Sender’s Address
Scammers often use email addresses that look close to the real thing.
✅ Real: support@bektel.coop
🚫 Fake: support@bek-coop.com or support@bekhelp.commail.com
If what comes after “@” is not @bektel.com or @bektel.coop, it is not from BEK.
4. Watch for Red Flags
Be cautious of emails that demand urgent action, contain spelling errors, ask for personal or payment information, or come from unknown senders.
5. Report Suspicious Emails
If you receive a fake or suspicious BEK email, forward it to csr@bektel.coop. You can also report scams to your email provider or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov.
6. Share What You Know
Talk with friends, coworkers, and family, especially those new to email. A quick tip can prevent a costly mistake.
