Get the Most Out of Your Internet
January 2026
When your internet doesn’t seem to perform the way you expect, it’s easy to assume the internet service itself is the problem. In many cases, the good news is this: your BEK Fiber connection is working exactly as it should. What often makes the difference is the equipment and devices inside your home.
With BEK Fiber-to-the-Home, you already have the best internet available. BEK Fiber is a dedicated connection that runs directly to your home. Unlike traditional cable, DSL, or cellular-based internet services, it doesn’t rely on shared neighborhood lines or signals sent from a nearby tower. That means steady speeds, strong reliability, and consistent performance you can count on.
Our standard internet service starts at 1 Gig fiber (gigabit fiber internet). That level of service is designed to support how homes use the internet today—streaming TV, video calls, online classes, gaming, smart home devices, and more.
What Does “1 Gig Internet” Mean?
A gig of internet refers to how much total capacity your connection provides. One gig equals 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps), which is divided among the devices in your home.
Individual devices typically use only a portion of that capacity at any given moment. The advantage of gig internet is having plenty of available capacity, so everything works smoothly when multiple devices are in use at the same time.
Why Speeds Can Look Different
Some customers are surprised when a speed test on a phone, tablet, or computer doesn’t show a full gig. In most cases, that doesn’t mean your fiber connection isn’t delivering. It simply reflects the limits of the device or the router being used.
Most devices are built to use only as much speed as they need. Older phones, computers, or TVs may not be able to show gig speeds—especially over Wi-Fi. Seeing speeds in the 300–500 Mbps range on a single device is completely normal on a gig-fibered home.
Think of it this way: gig fiber supplies the capacity for your entire household, not just one device. The real benefit shows up when multiple devices are in use and everything still runs smoothly.
The Right Router Makes a Difference
The router in your home plays an important role in how your internet performs day to day. If you’re using an older, customer-owned router that’s three to five years old, it may not be designed for today’s connected homes or gig-speed internet.
That’s why BEK offers the BEK Router with Whole-Home Wi-Fi, designed to deliver strong, reliable coverage throughout your home. The BEK Router is actively supported and receives regular updates managed by BEK—including security updates—to help keep your home network secure and performing well as technology and usage change. It’s built to support multiple connected devices and help reduce slow spots as you move from room to room.
In some cases, older or rarely used devices connected to your Wi-Fi may not communicate as efficiently as newer ones. While your fiber connection continues to deliver the same capacity, those devices can affect how network resources are shared among devices within your home.
Tools to Help You Stay in Control
The BEK Freedom app, included with the BEK Router, makes it easy to see what’s connected to your network, identify older devices, and manage them if needed. It also provides simple tools to monitor usage, pause internet access when needed, and add an extra layer of security for your home network.

If you’re experiencing slowdowns or connection issues, don’t assume your BEK Fiber is the problem. In many cases, a quick look at your router or connected devices can make a noticeable difference.
